You Came To MePeace be with you all, I'm delighted to announce that our Video is back online. Special Thanks to ETM International for all their efforts and support. God Bless you all Sami
Not so good news :( Friday, November 13th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Dear all, youtube-warning-you-came-to-meAssalamu alaikom wa rahmatullah. Here's a few lines from a new song I wrote recently. "Cheat and lie, have it your way but you can't cheat death, no way" I, like all of you, was quite horrified by what happened today. It's a long road... but It can end at any time. We will get the video back iA as it is produced and paid for by ETM International. But, this does not end here. I have remained silent (on so many countless issues) out of dignity and self-respect and will continue doing so iA. Actions speak louder than words and all is clear to see. We should Judge accordingly. We'll get the Video back iA - Everyone, be calm and with ALLAH swt. If we have Him, we need nobody/nothing in life. God Bless you all. Sami
Great News :-) Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 9:08 am

Greetings and Congratulations :) Monday, October 26th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
p1010093Greetings everyone :-) Congratulations on reaching over 500k views on Youtube for "You Came To Me." I actually recorded an unusually long Video message to share with you all (approx 15 mins!), only to find that the sound quality is too poor to use. I touched on a lot of issues, sensitive issues I felt I should talk about... I will re-record and upload soon - I promise :) So, in the meantime, here's a little "Thank You" snippet for you all until the next update. God Bless you all and congratulations once again. Sami

Greetings From New York... Monday, October 12th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
times-squareIt's been quite a day... Visited Ground Zero (a Must for everyone I believe!); a School where I was forced to give a speech; met with one of the big Music Producers who's trying to persuade me to release my music through my website - bybass the Major Labels! What do you all think about that? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one particularly! Basically, what we could do is release a song every 2 months - a mini-snapshot of where I am at that moment, a bit like a 'mini music-blog'.  Any thoughts? God Bless and Tc. Much love from the beautiful New York :-) Sami
Early morning thought from the Airport... Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at 4:06 am
Greetings all, Just enjoying a lovely cup of coffee at the Airport while awaiting to board for my flight to New York.  I decided to check a few of my emails/messages and "Wow" If only you knew how much I'm moved and inspired by these messages... Trust me, it's more than you can all imagine :-) The following are a few recent messages I cherish and adore: Marija, Macedonia "I hope that you will read this message and that you will if Allah want, you will soon give me an answer. My name is Marija, and i am your big fan from Skopje, Macedonia. I guess that you know where Macedonia is... Maybe this is a litlle strange to many people that i am your big fan and that i like your songs, becouse I am not a muslim ( not yet anyway!). I am a christian but i love your songs very much and I really like you and respect you as a very good and nice person, and a great songwriter. SubhanA'allah, i have listened to all your English tracks and every time i listen to them I feel much better. After listening to your new track "You Came to Me" I do not only feel better but I forget all my problems (this is the only thing that has been playing in my car for the past two weeks :) ). As I said I am not sending you a message to thank or praise you, but i am messaging you to have you recognize what you have done to help guide some muslims. Recently, I was watching/listening to your recent interview with Riz wallahi i had tears dropping down my eyes at the end of the interview. I know you do a lot of humanity work. ianbrown_420jpg1I'm delighted to confirm that I'll be collaborating with Ian Brown - a truly versatile and diverse musican/artist. Parviz Meshkatian and Alicia de Larrocha Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
banner3_0_07Last week,  we have witnessed the death two great musicians: Parviz Meshkatian (the great Persian composer and Virtousi) and Alicia de Larrocha (one of the greatest Pianists of our time). My sincere condolences to the families of both of Parviz Meshkatian and Alicia de Larrocha  and the rest of the Music loving people. I was particularly saddened upon hearing the news of Mr. Meshkatian's passing as he was quite a young man. I came to know of this news by email from one of the Persian supporters - he was kind enough to send some website links as well so I can post them here for all to see. I've been a fan of Meskhkatian since I was a child and I believe Persians have lost a great musician, composer and pioneer in the development and enhancement of Persian Classical Music. Parviz Meskhatian was a great influence on many musicians - including myself. May he and Alicia de Larrocha forever Rest In Peace. Sami

'Eid Party' with Sami on BBC Asian Network Today (22nd September) Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 at 8:18 am
maida-vale Catch me on the BBC Asian Network today and listen to the Maida Vale acoustic performance at 5 pm (UK Time). Unfortunately, the Video version of "Without You" is not the final approved version :( For whatever reason, it's still there... I hope to get that rectified soon. The final approved version will be aired as Audio from the BBC Asian Network Radio. A shame, but not much can be done... Alas, it seems this song never seems free of 'problems' :-) Listen online here Hope you enjoy the show. God Bless. Sami
MBC fm Interview update... Friday, September 18th, 2009 at 12:10 am
I just returned from a 80-90 mins interview on "MBC fm Panorama." It was really nice :) I liked the presenter's humour :) We talked about a lot of things ranging from Music, Art, Anasheed, spirituality and, of course, the New upcoming album. I explained how this album is much more 'intimate' and 'personal'. More 'Me' as opposed to 'You' kind of thing... I honestly believe that these past couple of years, though testing and challenging, have inspired me to create and write some of my finest material that I feel very proud of. I can't wait to have it out iA :) Hoping for you all a blessed and fruitful remaining few days of Ramadan and happy Eid iA. With much love and duas for you all. God Bless. Sami
Maida Vale and More... Monday, September 14th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Concert Pre-showThe Maida Vale was an absolutely incredible experience. We were given a tour around this iconic place and I can tell you, it truly felt surreal to actually be there! So much history in this place - unbelievable :) Look out for it soon on the BBC... Will update you all regarding broadcast date. Meanwhile, here is a little something for you all :) It's from my latest show in Turkey. A little 'Pre-show' footage :) Sami

Misunderstanding... Monday, September 7th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
untitled136707e8381907c99a07byI've been receiving lots of emails recently regarding a statement, allegedly I made, in a tabloid newspaper based in Turkey. The newspaper purports to me apparently "favouring" Armenia over Azerbaijan in the Eurovision song contest. It also purports that I will be "...performing in Armenia sometime soon..." I remember the lady interviewing me... The interview was around 45 mins long... We discussed many things and after the interview, while  in the elevator, we talked about the Eurovision song contest. I, innocently I may add, mentioned that "I thought Norway and EVEN Armenia were more dignified than the Azeri entry... The Azeri entry wasn't reflective of Azeri culture nor music..."  It seems, amazingly, that the journalist left the 45 mins interview and just concentrated on this one line with lots of other fabrications added to it. Please ignore such tabloid style journalism... Their only wish is to 'incite' and 'stir' in order to increase readership...
Istanbul Harbiye update!! Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at 6:40 am
n543575293_7864-1jpg A truly beautiful and emotional experience... It was a wonderful show and great turn-out! Thank You for your support. I have to say that I have never been this emotional in any concert. I virtually cried in every song where the Prophet's (SAS) name was mentioned. I missed my Prophet SAS so much... God Bless you all for your continuous prayers and I can't thank you enough for actually going out and buying a ticket. Tonight you proved many wrong... Unfortunately, due to the fact that my first ever concert in Istanbul was given for Free (and it was quite a comprehensive show we gave), certain people felt they shouldn't ever have to pay to see  me. They may have felt "We saw Sami for Free, so why should we have to pay to see me again?" I have to say, I was a little hurt by this... But it's ok... Tonight was an extraordinary night and I thank you for having me :-) Sami

New Music Video Friday, August 21st, 2009 at 11:33 pm
samiyusufnewprofile Peace be with you all and Ramadan Kareem, Finally, the Music video is released and I hope you all like it. The video was recorded in Denmark and directed by the talented Jacob Vitt. Personally, I feel this is one of my favourite videos due to the following: a) the quality - which is actually difficult to truly appreciate due to the compression on Youtube etc; b)  The simplicity, elegance and grace it carries; c) the Western/European 'feel' about it - which I love - combined with the Islamic Calligraphy works so naturally and beautifully d) Less is More - as in effects are not 'blown out of proportion'. The Motion graphics (the 'magic') was done by one of the (if not The) best Motion Graphics companies in Denmark www.thankyou.dk They truly did an amazing job with this and went way out of their way and what was expected of them in insuring this project turned out special! They really managed to make the motion graphics look cool without it becoming 'cheesy'. I'm so pleased and honoured that one of the reasons they put so much heart/love in this project was because they really loved the song! Thank You thankyou :-) I'd like to thank the entire team for making this clip so beautiful and blessed. God Bless you all and Ramadan Karim Sami
"You Came To Me" for FREE download and more... Sunday, August 9th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
You Came To MePeace and Blessings upon you all. It is with great pleasure that I announce the release of my forthcoming track “You Came To Me” as my gift to you all for Free download on the 18th August. This is a very personal song for me. I wrote the words and music in the early hours of the 23rd November 2008 at a time when I was feeling lots of different emotions; lost, betrayal, hurt, frustration. At that very moment it occured to me how truly blessed I am to be the slave of the One and in an instant flashback, my Journey to Him unfolded in front of me. This song is a mini encapsulation of that flashback. I hope you will all enjoy it iA. View Trailer HERE I pray for a blessed and rewarding Ramadan for us all. God Bless you all Sami PS keep checking the website for updates... More surprises to follow :-)
Honorary Doctorate Speech... Friday, July 24th, 2009 at 11:36 pm

p10008871"I am absolutely honoured to accept the award of Doctor of Letters.

May I first express my sincere thanks to the Senate and Council, and Chancellor, John Simpson, for recognising me and my work and bestowing on me an honour that I will continue to treasure for the rest of my life.

Secondly I would like to thank all of you for sharing your day with me.

You have worked so hard, and made immense sacrifices to get to this moment, to achieve qualifications which will reward you for the rest of your life.

You all deserve to feel immensely proud of your achievement, it is your first step into the wider world.

You may be feeling daunted by this, but we have one thing in common.

We all face challenges in our lives, and we will all strive to overcome them.

Before I go on, I have to admit that I am not a very good Popstar.

I don’t drink, don’t do drugs, and you won’t find me hauling Paris Hilton out of a nightclub at 4am.

I am also shy, and I hate talking about myself, so please bear with me, I would much rather prefer to sing you a few of my songs – but I have not got any biographical ones.

So a speech it is…

I am not a man to give unwanted advice, but I can tell from my own heart that nothing has given me more pleasure than to be creative, to challenge orthodox thinking and to be the best I can be – from my personal and business relationships, to my work.

Let me explain.

Some of you will obviously be wondering who I am! It is very hard for me to explain, but simply put, I am a proud British Muslim, from London, who has only ever made music I have wanted to make – I kind of call it “Art with a Purpose”

Basically I write and perform music which infuse the spirit of the Muslim character into a new sound both Western and Eastern in flavour and appeal.

I have sold albums to fans in countries as diverse as Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Iran. Which is nice, but that is more of a footnote to the journey.

I created records that were unthinkable by certain Islamic scholars, creating a new market among Muslims of all ages who were not permitted to listen to any popular music without incurring the wrath of family, friends and certain religious authorities.

So - when I first started composing and song-writing, there was simply no market for my music. I was writing about my love of God – not exactly something which would get me the attention of Sony or any of the global labels. Let alone Simon Cowell!

Sitting there at the piano or violin, I never considered whether it was brave or stupid…

…to create music no-one had ever created before

… in a genre that didn’t exist

…to a market which had never bought a pop record before.

Sounds pretty stupid right!

It was just real to me, it was truthful and came from my heart.

Looking back now, I can tell you it is a relief. I certainly must have done something very right.

My own faith, my own identity led me to create this music, which spoke of my love of God and respect for fellow human beings.

All of this came about of me following my dream, being truthful with myself, not faltering or diverting when others have suggested a path I felt in my heart was wrong.

Happiness and success come when you make sure you hold your ideals and dreams as sacred, and then I assure you

Anything and everything is possible to achieve in life.

Thank you to all for sharing your day with me it has been a real honour."

We Will Never Forget Srebrenica... Saturday, July 11th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
srebrenica-genocide-coffins-in-potocarijpg8In July 1995 the Bosnian Serb army staged a brutal takeover of Srebrenica and its surrounding area, where they proceeded to perpetrate genocide. Bosnian Serb soldiers separated Bosniak families, forcibly expelled 25,000-30,000 people, summarily executed at least 8,372 boys, men, and elderly, and dumped them into mass graves...
One on One - Sami Yusuf - 20 Jun 09 - Part 1 and Part 2 (with Riz Khan)... Sunday, June 21st, 2009 at 11:30 am
defaultjpgYesterday, while on my way to the airport, a relative called and said I was on Aljazeera. I have to say it was a little shocking to be among the last people to know I'm being aired on TV, but it's ok - I quickly got over it :-) I'd like to thank Riz for his kind support during the turbulent and highly emotional period which witnessed the release of the 'fake' demo album among other things. For the record, I'd like to clarify one point: I actually do not recall EVER mentioning "Religion should remain Free from Politics." Frankly, It's not my place to give opinions on such matters and I wouldn't allow myself to get driven into such topics in any interview either. However, I'm 100% sure it was harmless mistake and I hope you enjoy the videos! God Bless you all and thanks Riz for being the best host any artist/guest could ever wish for! Peace and love Sami Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXryuBPeAaI&feature=fvsr Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpo_2xG0t_4&feature=related N.B This interview was recorded in February 2009
Not in My faith, Not In My Name Sunday, June 21st, 2009 at 11:05 am
images-11The time has come for us ALL - in ONE voice - to say "NO, NOT IN OUR NAME" This is NOT my faith... My faith does NOT (and will never) condone the killing/murder of innocent human beings. My faith respects the sanctity of every single human life. My faith states that "To kill an innocent human would be as though you've killed the whole of humanity." It's terrifying watching these images, truly terrifying. What ever happened to accountability? Taqwa (fear of God)? Compassion? ISLAM?? God have Mercy on each and every soul that has been pulled away from HIM as a result of people who claim to be holy when in fact nothing about them is holy. I was born in Tehran and when I see these faces covered in blood I see my brothers and sisters because I not only share an affinity through faith alone, but through language, food, music, culture - after all, this is my birthplace! Shame on those who pick up the baton and beat these poor innocent people, shame! Ws. Sami

Feedback from the prestigious Fez Festival Monday, June 8th, 2009 at 1:49 am
BAB BOUJLOUD Alhamdulillah, this was a truly beautiful and unforgettable experience! The organisers told me that the official concert on the 5th of June drew the highest crowd. I volunteered to do a free concert for the public the following day and thankfully it was a total success with tens of thousands of people attending. Thank You dearest people of Fez for honouring me and giving me the opportunity to experience the magic this great city has to offer. Here's a tiny glimpse of that magic: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sami-Yusuf/15489312139 Peace and Love Sami

early morning thoughts brought to you from Fez :-) Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 4:23 am
Peace be with you all, Just landed in Fes. It was a bit of a journey but Alhamdulillah we're here now. Really excited about the show... During our three hour transit stop-over in Casablanca, I began to ponder and reflect over stuff - like I usually do -and suddenly something odd occurred to me... I'm always amazed at how God SWT has blessed me. I mean, after a relatively long absence from the music scene and/or Music TV stations, people STILL recognise and approach me as though I'm a member of their family - Subhan ALLAH :-) God Bless you all - especially my TRUE loyal supporters who have stood by me during this somewhat difficult and testing period and given me their 110% FULL unequivocal support. All I can say is I'm truly overwhelmed by the sheer love, support and kindness you have all shown me and I honestly feel I'm not worthy of any of it - and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. For now, from the glorious Fes, I bid you all a very warm and blessed good morning :) I'll keep you all posted iA As always, I ask that you please keep me in your prayers Much love Ws. Sami PS it's 04.23 am!
Beautiful message I thought I'd share with you... Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at 11:56 am

Interview with "4Shabab TV" in Manchester... Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 12:09 am
images11Today (or rather yesterday as it's past midnight now), I was visited by Ahmad Abu Haiba from 4shabab TV who had graciously flown all the way from Cairo to interview me... It went well mA, a little long perhaps, but well :-) We faced some problems at the beginning as there wasn't enough room for 6 people and all their equipment, but thankfully it all worked out in the end. We talked about many things (faith, importance of Intention, itqaan and of course the notorious 'fake album'). The interview will be aired sometime in July so stay tuned for further information iA. God Bless you all and I hope you're enjoying the latest updates :-) Sami 27th May, past midnight
